You may have heard by now that Remote Electronic Notarization will begin in NC on July 1, 2023. That means we can complete all closings via Zoom starting this summer, right? That seems to be the expectation from many real estate professionals who have heard about this.  n the words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend!” July 1, 2023 represents the first date new remote notarization rules can be implemented. Before that can happen the Secretary of State must draft the rules, a process which involves multiple rounds of drafts and comment review.  Existing notary rules must be re-drafted to revise for consistency purposes. Current notaries will have to take update training. The Secretary of State expects this to take… a while. Recently they estimated it would be a year or more before remote notarizations are being used in practice.

Good things come to those who wait, so we at Jackson Law look forward to making closings more convenient and less time consuming for everyone involved once the Secretary of State AND mortgage lenders are ready to make electronic notarization available for implementation and accepted.

With this knowledge, now you can Rest Easy.
